Healing the family wounds you never knew you had

Many of you are carrying anxieties, depression, insecurities, or intense emotions, without an immediately evident source. There’s no significant trauma to point to, no dreadful parental anecdotes or adverse life events to explain the origins of these unsettling emotions. So, the question is, where do these issues originate from? I believe I have the answer, and it lies within your families. In Philip Larkin’s poem, This Be The Verse, he talks about how our parents mess us up, and although often unintentional, I believe this to be true. Though this workshop I will explain more about how our seemingly normal families impact us well in to adulthood and how we can start breaking down and leaving behind some of these impacts. I'm Lianne Terry, a counsellor helping individuals who struggle with their well-being to achieve true happiness and empowerment.

Storytelling Flow-Shop: I use a fusion of different Indigenous and Traditional Afrikan Storytelling techniques while creating a safe environment for people to delve deeper into their own experiences to unearth and unlock what they desire to grow, explore and evolve through. I play various indigenous instruments that I use for creativity and re-membering masking explorations for intuitive flow scaping, an indigenous sound journey experience that involves specific movements and meditations that explore the moments in between chaos and stillness, worldly expectations and being, silence and noise, thinking and not thinking, etc. Colouring the spaces in between by having fun with a purpose. Whether it's the passing of a cherished loved one, the end of a significant relationship, or the goodbye to a beloved pet, grief touches us all in different ways. At this year's Conscious Camp, we invite you to journey through a unique grief ceremony inspired by the ancient wisdom of the Dagara Tribe in Africa. This is not a traditional memorial service, but a space for personal reflection and healing. Immerse yourself in a supportive and compassionate environment where you can connect with others who understand the weight of loss. What to Expect: The Village: This designated area serves as your safe haven throughout the ceremony. Here, you'll find community, support, and a warm welcome upon your return from your personal journey. The Journey: As the ceremony unfolds, you'll be invited to leave the village and visit three distinct altars: Altar of Grief: Honour the one you lost, allowing tears, rage and emotions to flow freely. Altar of Love: Express your love and gratitude for the people and things in your life. Ancestral Altar: Connect with your ancestors, seeking guidance and support on your healing journey. Their strength and wisdom can be a powerful source of comfort. Music and Movement: Throughout the ceremony, drumming and music will create a powerful and emotive atmosphere, guiding your experience. Important to Remember: There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Take your time, listen to your heart, and move at your own pace. You are not alone. This ceremony creates a space of shared understanding and compassion, fostering a sense of community during challenging times. Focus on healing, not erasure. This ceremony is not about forgetting your loss, but about finding strength and solace within it, taking a step towards personal growth. Prepare for Your Journey: Come with an open heart and mind. Be willing to connect with others and explore your emotions. Wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement. Bring tissues and water, if needed. Most importantly, come with the intention to heal. Join us in this powerful ceremony as we move through the shadows of grief and emerge into the light of healing together. Together, we can find strength, compassion, and renewed hope on this journey of wellbeing. You must sign up for this ceremony and let us know if you have any existing mental health issues or if you are on medication. It can be used to address a wide range of issues, including relationship difficulties, family conflicts, trauma, addictions, and emotional or behavioral problems. It is a holistic approach that views individuals as part of a larger system and seeks to promote healing and growth within that system. The 5Rhythms practice is a movement map which invites each of us to explore our dance in our own unique way. There are no steps to follow. We are encouraged instead to let go into different movement explorations and allow ourselves to be danced. The intention is that everyone can move in this way, regardless of age, fitness or physical ability. The 5Rhythms are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. They are universal patterns which we explore in our dance. Each Rhythm invites us to embody our dance in a different way and together the Rhythms offer endless movement possibilities. The first half hour of a 5Rhythms class is spent warming up to music. This is a time for each of us to do what we need to do to arrive and begin to connect with our dance. Some time is then spent moving our attention through our different body parts. For the main part of the class we move through the map of the 5Rhythms following guidance from the teacher and supported by music. We dance alone and we are also invited at times to dance with another or in a group if we want to. Teachers play a wide variety of musical genres and moods selected to support our dance, from wild and funky to gentle and slow.

Singing these mantras can really help us to open up our hearts and enter deep states of bliss and transcendence, helping to shift any emotional or energetic blocks that we may be carrying. Singing is such a great way to release those feel-good endorphins and express who you truly are, helping you to feel relaxed and at peace. Focusing on the words, there is little room for your mind to wander, so you can drop down into your heartspace with relative ease.

So come along and heal yourself through the power of your own voice. The throat, they say, is a bridge between the mind and the heart. Bring yourself back into alignment and experience the blissful oneness that chanting can evoke.
